First Church runs several missions to help our community and beyondAutomobile: facilitates the donation of cars for use by single parents Calloused Hands: helping hands in the community for small jobs that are in a crisis situation Construction missions: a team of Church volunteers on call for local construction and mission trips Dine with Jesus: provides devotions and hot meals to the homeless in downtown Ft. Lauderdale every Monday evening. Chefs for Dine with Jesus cook every Monday afternoon for the homeless ministry. Families Crisis Ministry: shares the love and blessings of God with others by providing financial assistance and counseling to qualified church members and qualified members of the community. The ministry also administers the Thanksgiving Basket food program and the Adopt a Family for Christmas program. Fig Tree Ministries: provides Bible lessons, teaching English and job skills to children at the Hogar de Ninos de Nazereth Orphanage in Comayagua, Honduras Furniture Ministry: receives donations of furniture and provides furniture to families in need at no cost Haitian churches: provides Creole songbooks and Bibles, in addition to bulk rice and beans to all local Haitian Churches, regardless of affiliation His Walk: provides food, clothing, Bibles and Bible studies at a park in downtown Ft. Lauderdale Medical missions: A team of nurses and doctors on call for mission trips Military Ministry: every person, serving in our armed forces, that is referred to First Church, receives a monthly package and a card from us. There are "pack and ship" parties quarterly. New Hope Ministries: is a Christian school and church located in San Andreas, Guatemala. This Head Start-type school serves children from impoverished homes currently ranging in age from infant to kindergarten. The First Church Children's Ministry is taking a mission trip to the New Hope School in July 2010 to bring VBS to these children. Prison Ministry: provides Bibles and clothing to a local prison transition facility Sandwich Club: brings latchkey kids into our facilities to feed, play, sing and share the gospel on Wednesday afternoons from 2:00-4:00 pm during the school year These are missions outside of the church that First Church supports4 Children's S.A.K.E.: provides special items and financial support to this organization dedicated to helping children in foster care Broward Children's Center Children's Home: visits and supports this home specializing in helping children with special needs Brookwood Home: provides home repair, maintenance and financial support to this local home for girls Broward Outreach Center: provides this homeless retraining center with fresh food, clothes and supplies Caring Connection: brings joy and companionship to seniors in local assisted living facilities and those in need of home help Cross International: provides food, clothing and school supplies to Haiti Habitat for Humanity: work crews provide labor to build homes for the needy Helpers of St. Herman: provides furniture, repairs, and financial aid to this home for mentally challenged men and women Hope Pregnancy Center: provides much needed baby items and financial support to this local facility that offers an alternative to abortion Methodist Children's Home: provides funds to support this home for at-risk children and youth in Enterprise, Fla. School Ministry (Hunt Elementary School): provides uniforms and school supplies, offering clinical and teaching assistance, reading and special project opportunities Shoebox Ministry: provides shoeboxes filled with items needed by the homeless Sue Sommer: Contemporary Christian recording/performing artist Wesley Group Home: provides needed supplies, furnishings and financial support to this Methodist Home in Hallandale, Florida |
