Note from a soldier
MOM (Military Outreach Ministry) sends packages to soldiers serving overseas. Anyone can receive a package. Just give us his or her name. It would be a blessing for us as well as them.

Cheryl,

I just wanted to share my thanks to you and your church for supporting all of the troops serving in the Armed forces. When we receive care packages, it’s almost like Christmas. Care packages are few and far between on deployments. it makes us all very proud to serve our country when we are supported by our families, friends and even people who we do not know. So when I do receive these care packages, I share them with my sailors. So that each one of them receive something from you and your church. So from my shipmates and myself who serve in the Arresting Gear onboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69), we say thank you again.

A little information about my self and this deployment.

I have served in the United States Navy for 13 years. I am the Leading Petty Officer in the Arresting Gear. The Arresting Gear is in control of Landing all Aircraft returning to the ship. Whether combat or logistic, we have the lives of the pilots and aircrew on the flight deck in our hands. Now I am not talking about old salts like myself. I have 38 sailors who work under me. 75% or the ages 18-21. So I am very proud of the fact that our young Americans maintain hundreds of thousands worth of dollars in equipment. To safely recover multi million dollar aircraft everyday. Just this deployment alone in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom. We have safely recovered over 7,000 aircraft, with a 98% equipment availability. This is our young men and women of America doing these fetes. They have also received the Yellow “E” for combat readiness and received over 200 qualifications with in a 7 month time frame. We have hit ports to include Dubai ; Bahrain ; and Turkey . I have been blessed with a great group of young sailors who are the future of the Navy and show everyday the Navy’s core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment.

Other missions needs

New Hope School in Guatemala: The school is in need of appliances. The container is leaving Aug. 14. Please call Melea Goins at 954-288-5349 for details.

Haiti fundraiser: Help raise the roof in Haiti! The mission team is working with Food for the Poor to build a pavilion for the people to have a place to gather to praise God. Stop by the mission table on Sundays to buy a piece of wood, a box of screws or a solar device. Every little bit helps. We also need over-the-counter medications, fans, tents, blow-up mattresses and prayer. Please call Cheryl Price at 754-368-4567 for details.

The Haiti mission team meeting is Thursday, July 29, 7 pm, in the Choir Room.

Back-to-school supplies: Can you help Hunt Elementary and His Walk with school supplies and uniforms? If so, please leave them at the Mission Table.

His Walk: Many needs for the homeless this summer: sunscreen, water, snack foods, Skin So Soft and bug repellent. You can place donated items in a bag marked “His Walk” in the grocery cart in front of the sanctuary. Please call Lisa McClean at 954-753-6571 or 954-592-0965 for details.

Donations: Don't forget to add $1 per week for Missions on your envelope, or drop $1 in the small church in the lobby of the sanctuary.
