There are many ad hoc ensembles, both vocal and instrumental, that provide worship music for services at First Church. We are blessed with many soloists who provide passionate and well-rehearsed "testimonies in song" for special occasions and the most important event each week: the worship service.
Organ and organist
The organist for First Church is Mr. Merlin Oehrke, 954-753-8018. Merlin serves as the accompanist for the Sanctuary Choir, Faithful Men, all soloists and the orchestra, and assists the Minister of Music in providing worship music for weddings, funerals and worship services. He brings more than 50+ years of ministry experience to First Church. He manages his own piano-tuning and repair business and is a well-respected music consultant in South Florida.
The organ in the sanctuary is a 25 rank Schantz Pipe Organ that was installed in 1992.
More about music ministry at First Church
Our church is blessed with four fine studio pianos, one grand piano in the sanctuary, two synthesizer keyboards, an assortment of drums and rhythm instruments. Our handbell teams play a four-octave set of Schulmerich handbells manufactured in Sellersville, Pa.
The TEMPO Music Council is made up of leaders and directors of all music groups. This newly formed group meets to plan, monitor, execute and evaluate all music ministry and programs. This group also calendars and recommends a budget for music ministry.
Our church has an extensive music library located in the Minister of Music's office.
The Minister of Music and Worship, Rev. Keith Miller, 954-575-9138, is a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University, Peabody Conservatory and St. Mary's Seminary, and has served churches in Oklahoma, Maryland and Florida.
